No. 23 Capital Sweeps No. 10 Ohio Northern 3-0
Crusaders Play in OAC Championship Match Saturday

(ADA, Ohio)--No. 4 seed Capital University swept No. 1 seed Ohio Northern University, 3-0 in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament Friday in Ada.

The win for Capital, ranked No. 23 in the nation, set a new school-record for wins in a season moving them to 31-4, marked the second 3-0 victory at Ohio Northern this season and improved their record to 5-0 against nationally ranked teams.  Ohio Northern ends its season with a 26-8 record.

Ohio Northern jumped out to an 11-5 lead in game one, before an 11-3 Capital run gave the Crusaders a 16-14 lead.  The Polar Bears would tie the game at 21-21 before Capital pulled off the 30-26 victory.

The Crusaders dominated game two, 30-13, then survived a late Ohio Northern rally for a 30-28 win in game three for the sweep.

Sophomore middle hitter Jessie Hampson (Lancaster/Lancaster) and junior outside hitter Jordan Centers (Norwalk/Norwalk St. Paul) each tallied 16 kills, junior Libero Marie Zumberger (Degraff/Fairlawn) had a 17 digs, while junior setter Heather Kwiatkowski (Fremont/Clyde) tallied 24 assists to lead Capital.

Ohio Northern got 14 kills from Sara McGinnis, 40 assists from Erika Roof and 13 digs from Karlee Kanuckel.

Capital in the OAC Tournament Championship match for the first time since 2003, takes on Baldwin-Wallace College tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Ada.  The winner of the match earns the OAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
