Capital Ends Regular Season on High Note With Sweep at
Centre (Ky.) Halloween Bash
Capital d. Mount St. Joseph 30-28, 32-34, 30-24, 30-22
Capital d. Randolph-Macon (Va.) 30-17, 30-17, 30-18
Capital d. Washington & Lee (Va.) 30-24, 30-21, 23-30, 30-26
Capital d. Franklin (Ind.) 30-24, 30-22, 30-20
(DANVILLE, Ky.)--Capital University's volleyball team, ranked
No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region, conquered nationally ranked No. 11 Mount St. Joseph and Randolph-Macon
(Va.) at Centre College's (Ky.) Halloween Bash Saturday before defeating
Washington & Lee (Va.) and Franklin (Ind.) on Sunday to close out the
regular season.
Mount St. Joseph, Randolph-Macon and Washington & Lee are all regionally
ranked teams with Mount St Joseph also slated at No. 11 in the country. The
latter two teams are ranked sixth and seventh in the South Region in the
latest NCAA Regional Rankings. Capital now has a 3-0 record against nationally
ranked teams and is 7-1 versus regionally ranked opponents.
A trio of seniors and a junior were named to the All-Tournament Team this
weekend, as senior middle hitters Jenn Lilly (Johnstown/Northridge) and
Ashley Gentry (Sandusky/Perkins) as well as outside hitter Kristen
Knis (Canton/Jackson) took home the honors. Junior Libero Marie
Zumberger (Degraff/Fairlawn) was also named to the team for her work
defensively.
With the weekend sweep, the Crusaders are now 29-4 overall, 7-2 in the Ohio
Athletic Conference and await a showdown at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the
Capital Center against Muskingum in the quarterfinals of the OAC Volleyball
Tournament. |
