Three School Records Set at Baldwin-Wallace Twilight Meet

(BEREA, Ohio) -- Two individuals and a men's relay team broke school
records Friday as the Capital University track & field team competed at the
Baldwin-Wallace Twilight Meet at George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio.
The Crusaders sent only a small number of athletes to the event, but those
individuals fared well as school records were broken and NCAA provisional
qualifying marks were improved upon.
Starting with the women, junior distance runner Melissa Burgei
(Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) continued to break her own school record in the the
5000m run, this time moving under 19 minutes with a time of 18:57.95.
Freshman Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow International) finished first
in the triple jump (11.02 meters) and senior Erica Basinger (West Jefferson/Worthingon
Kilbourne) came in third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.11, a
provisional qualifying mark.
For the men, junior Nate Thornhill (Xenia/Xenia) continued his success in
the 110m hurdles, setting a school record and provisionally qualifying for
NCAA's with a time of 14.79, while the men's 4x100m relay team of sophomore Desmond
Taylor (Toledo/Toledo-St. Johns), freshman T.J. Scott (Olmsted
Townships/Olmsted Falls), junior Trent Hinton (Columbus/Whetstone) and
junior Jeremy Mulkey (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) bettered their NCAA
provisional time in the relay with a mark of 41.55 seconds, while breaking their
own school record in the process.
The Crusaders will now wait and see which individuals or relay teams will
qualify for the NCAA Championships next Thurs.-Sat. at Benedictine University in
