Capital Men & Women Both Finish Sixth at OAC Championships
Gibbons Wins Pole Vault; Thornhill Wins 110 Hurdles
10 All-OAC Performances

(MARIETTA, Ohio)--Capital University's men's & women's track and field teams both finished in sixth place at the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta.

The Capital men with 65 points finished just three points shy of fifth place Otterbein (68), while Mount Union claimed the title with 212 points.  On the  women side, Capital scored 56 points, 20 behind fifth place Mount Union, while Baldwin-Wallace took the title with 197.5 points.

Capital's men's squad had six all-conference performances headlined by junior Nate Thornhill (Xenia/Xenia) winning the 110 meter hurdles (14.94) and freshman Doug Gibbons (Troy/Troy) who set a school record and NCAA provisional mark by taking the pole vault title (15-5).

Desmond Taylor (Toledo/Toledo St. John's), T.J. Scott (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls), Trent Hinton (Columbus/Whetstone) and Jeremy Mulkey (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) set a new school record, an NCAA provisional mark and earned All-OAC honors finishing third in the 4x100 relay.  Taylor then combined with Brian Pelanda (Marysville/Marysville), Charlie Smith (Westerville/Big Walnut) and Matt Cesaratto (Seven Hills/Normandy) for a third place finish and All-OAC time of 3:21.23 in the 4x400 relay.

Other All-OAC marks came from Cesaratto, who missed by 500th of a second besting a 31-year old school, finishing second in the 400 meter hurdles (55.29) and Syl Eddy (Columbus/Bishop Ready) with a third in the triple jump (43-9).

Six new school records and four all-conference performances were the highlights for the Capital women.

Erica Basinger (West Jefferson/Worthington Kilbourne) set a pair of school-records and was All-OAC with second place finishes in the 100 meters (12.48) and 400 meter hurdles (1:03.95).

Basinger along with Abby Skoda (Ashland/Ashland), Amanda Damsel (Westerville/Westerville South) and Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow) got All-OAC honors in the 4x100 relay.  Basinger and Stanton hooked up with Liz Ramsey (North Canton/Hoover) and Amanda Whitmer (Alexandria/Northridge) to set a new school-record with a fourth place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Ramsey also set a school-record with a fifth place finish in the 400 meters (1:00.09).

Melissa Burgei (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) finished third in the 10000 meters with a school-record time of 39:49.09 to also be named All-OAC and set another school-record with a 19:15.87 mark with a sixth place in the 5000 meters.

Capital will be in action next week at North Central (Ill.) and Baldwin-Wallace.
