Capital Women Set a Pair of School Records and an NCAA Championship Qualifying Time at Bobcat Open

(ATHENS, Ohio)--Capital University's women's track & field team set a pair of school records and the 4x100 meter relay team qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships Friday at the Bobcat Open at Ohio University in Athens.

The quartet of sophomore Abby Skoda (Ashland/Ashland), senior Erica Basinger (West Jefferson/Worthington Kilbourne) with freshmen Amanda Damsel (Westerville/Westerville South) and Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow International) set a school-record and an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 48.42 in the 4x100 meter relay.

Aside from the relay Skoda placed second in the 200 meters (26.77), while Basinger won the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.34) and was third in the triple jump (32-11).

Junior Melissa Burgei (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) bested her own two-year old school record in the 1500 meters finishing third with a time of 5:05.23.

Other top finishes for the women came from freshman Krissy Short (Marysville/Fairbanks) who finished second in the 110 meter hurdles (18.03) and third place marks from sophomore Laura Earhart (Pickerington/Pickerington Central) in the pole vault (9-6.25) and freshmen Liz Ramsey (North Canton/Hoover) in the 400 meters (1:00.52) and Kara Guster (Orrville/Orrville) in the discus (112-07).

Junior Nate Thornhill (Xenia/Xenia) led the Capital men by winning the 110 meter hurdles (15.06).

Second place finishes came from junior Trent Hinton (Columbus/Whetstone) in the 200 meters (22.31), senior Brian Pelanda (Marysville/Marysville) in the 400 meters (50.90), Evan Hartman (Mt. Gilead/Mt. Gilead) in the high jump (6-4.75) and Syl Eddy (Columbus/Bishop Ready) in the triple jump (41-5).  Rounding out the day was sophomore Stephan Woods (Cleveland/Bedford Chanel) who took third in the 800 meters (2:06.44).

Capital travels to the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday at Don Drum Stadium in Marietta, Ohio.
