Crusader Men Finish First, Women Third, at Kenyon Invite

(GAMBIER, Ohio) -- Capital University's track & field team traveled
to Gambier, Ohio this weekend for the Kenyon College Invitational and returned
with a first place finish on the men's side and with the women coming in third.
On the men's side, Capital led the group with 149 points and was followed by The
College of Wooster with 123 points and Denison University with 117. For the
women, Capital's 144 points were good for third behind Otterbein College
(154.50) and overall winner The College of Wooster (158).
Capital's men dominated the sprinting events, with junior Jeremy Mulkey
(Dublin/Dublin Coffman) winning the 100m dash (11.19), junior Trent
Hinton (Columbus/Whetstone) winning the 200m dash (22.25), and junior Charlie
Smith (Westerville/Big Walnut) taking the 400m dash (49.84). The Crusaders
swept the top three spots in the 100 with Hinton and freshman T.J. Scott
(Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) following Mulkey with times of 11.49 and
11.51 respectively.
Junior Brian Pelanda (Marysville/Marysville) took third in the 400m dash
with a time of 50.94, junior Nate Thornhill (Xenia/Xenia) crossed second
in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.03 and senior Matt Cesaratto (Seven
Hills/Normandy) took first in the 400m hurdles at 55.89 seconds.
The men's 4x100 and 4x400m relay teams came in first and second respectively
with times of 42.50 and 3:23.09.
Thornhill finished second in the high jump (6-01.00), sophomore Gerald Bailey
(Cincinnati/Princeton) came in second in the long jump (21-02.50), and
junior Syl Eddy (Columbus/Bishop Ready) finished second in the triple
jump with a mark of 42-08.25.
In throwing events, senior Adam Fausnaugh (Asheville/Teays Valley)
finished second in the shot put (44-10.50) and senior Brad Armstrong
(Urbana/Urbana) broke his own school-record in the hammer throw with a mark
of 135-03 feet.
For the Crusader women, senior Erica Basinger (West Jefferson/Worthington
Kilbourne) once again starred, winning the 100m dash (12.73), 200m dash
(26.33), and coming in third in the long jump (16-11.50).
Other first place finishers were the 4x100m relay team with a time of 49.06
seconds and freshman Kara Guster (Orrville/Orrville) in the discus throw
(106-08).
Second place finishers included freshman Liz Ramsey (North Canton/Hoover) in
the 400m dash (1:00.89) and freshman Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow
International) in the triple jump (34-09.00).
Coming in third was freshman Kelsey Todd (Hanoverton/United Local) in the
shot put with a toss of 30-05.50.
Capital will go back on the road next Friday and Saturday to Indianapolis, Ind.
to the Stan Lyons/Butler Invitational. |
