(WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.) – Capital University's track &
field team made the trek to Winston Salem, N.C. this weekend to compete at the
Wake Forest Open hosted by Wake Forest University and put up a good showing
against top-notch competition.
The Crusaders were one of many teams at the Open that included Division I teams
in Wake Forest, Duke, Davidson and Miami (Ohio).
Three different Crusaders had second-place finishes in their respective jumping
events, including sophomore Abby Skoda (Ashland/Ashland) in the high jump
(5-01.75), freshman Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow International) in
the long jump (17-01.25) and junior Syl Eddy (Columbus/Bishop Ready) in
the triple jump (43-00.50).
Stanton also turned in a solid performance in the triple jump, finishing fourth
with a mark of 33-03.75.
Senior Brad Armstrong (Urbana/Urbana) broke his own hammer throw
school-record for the second straight week with a toss of 126-05 feet and
finished eighth overall.
Capital's sprinters also had an excellent weekend, propelled by junior Jeremy
Mulkey's (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) 100-meter dash time of 10.81 seconds.
Mulkey finished fifth overall in the 100 and his time provisionally qualified
him for the NCAA Championships.
Both the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay teams came in third, with the men
finishing ahead of three DI teams and only behind the winner Wake Forest by one
second.
Juniors Charlie Smith (Westerville/Big Walnut) and Trent Hinton
(Columbus/Whetstone), freshman T.J. Scott (Olmsted Township/Olmsted
Falls) and Mulkey comprised the men's team with a time of 42.68, while the
women's team of freshmen Tana Myers (Ashland/Mapleton) and Amanda
Damsel (Westerville/Westerville South), along with Stanton and Skoda cruised
in with a time of 50.87.
Damsel's time of 27.32 seconds in the 200-meter dash also qualified her for the
Ohio Athletic Conference championships in May.
Freshman Liz Ramsey (North Canton/Hoover) nearly broke the school-record
and came in fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.44.
Capital will make the short trip to Otterbein next weekend for the OAC Quad meet
on Saturday in Westerville. |
