Crusaders Open Up Outdoor Season at Cincinnati

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) – Capital University's track & field team made
the trip southwest for their first outdoor meet of the season to the University
of Cincinnati for the Early Bird Relays.
The Crusaders sprinters had a good showing at the relays on both the men and
women's sides.
Freshman Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow International) and senior
Erica Basinger (West Jefferson/Worthington Kilbourne) took second and third
place respectively in the 100-meter dash with times of 12.69 and 12.94.
Stanton and Basinger, along with sophomore Abby Skoda (Ashland.Ashland)
and freshman Amanda Damsel (Westerville/Westerville South) finished
second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.46 seconds. Freshman Liz
Ramsey (North Canton/Hoover) came in third in the 400-meter dash at 1:01.04.
For the men, junior Jeremy Mulkey (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) took fourth in
the 100-meter dash at 11.11 seconds, junior Trent Hinton (Columbus/Whetstone)
finished third in the 200-meter dash at 22.61 seconds and Nate Thornhill
(Xenia/Xenia) took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.14
seconds.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team also took second as Mulkey and Hinton combined
with freshman Brent Bolz (Westerville/Westerville South) and sophomore
Gerald Bailey (Cincinnati/Princeton) to run it in 43.22 seconds.
In the jumping events, Thornhill came in second in the high jump at six feet,
five inches (6-05.00) and followed in third place by junior Evan Hartman (Mt.
Gilead/Mt. Gilead) at six feet, one and a quarter inches (6-01.25), while
Basinger went 17 feet, two and three quarters inches (17-02.75) in the long jump
and finished second.
Junior Syl Eddy (Columbus/BIshop Ready) continued his success in the
triple jump, going 43 feet, three and a quarter inches (43-03.25) and coming in
third.
Capital will travel next weekend to the Wake Forest Invite in Winston Salem,
North Carolina.to compete Saturday and Sunday. |
