(ADA, Ohio) – Four school records were broken and many season
marks were set as the Capital University track & field team competed at Ohio
Northern University as part of their Friday Night Series last night at King Horn
Sports Center in Ada, Ohio.
Both the men's and women's teams placed third with 82 and 109 points
respectively. Ohio Northern won on the men's and women's side with Heidelberg
College's men (95 points) and Baldwin-Wallace College's women (118 points)
coming in second second.
School records were set by Jeremy Mulkey (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) in
55-meter dash, Melissa Burgei (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) in the mile-run, Shelly
Gaines (Grove City/Central Crossing) in the 800-meter run, and Brad
Armstrong (Urbana/Urbana) in the weight throw.
Mulkey's time of 6.45 in the prelims of the 55-meter dash set a school record,
shattering his own mark of 6.54 from last season. He is currently sitting 11th
on the NCAA 55-meter dash qualifying list with one more week to qualify.
Burgei and Gaines set school marks in distance events, the one-mile run for
Burgei and the 800-meter run for Gaines. Burgei's time was 5:29.54 and Gaines'
time was 2:26.66. Gaines' time qualified her for the OAC meet next weekend.

a school mark.
Other notables on the men's side included freshman Joe Miceli (Newark/Newark
Catholic) shaving four seconds off his best 800-meter run of the year,
crossing at 2:01.53, only two seconds off the school record. Also, junior Syl
Eddy (Columbus/Bishop Ready) was tops in the long jump, jumping a
season-best 43-10.00, while junior Adam Fausnaugh (Asheville/Teays Valley)
threw a season-best 44-08.25 in the shot put, finishing fourth overall at the
meet.

seconds, while junior Brian Pelanda (Marysville/Marysville) crossed at
second in the 300-meter dash at 37.16 seconds.

Kilbourne) finished third and ran a season-best 1:01.65 in the 400-meter
dash as she and freshman Liz Ramsey (North Canton/Hoover) (1:02.20) each
qualified for the OAC's with their times.
