Capital Men and Women Place Third at Otterbein Invitational

(WESTERVILLE, Ohio)-- Capital University's men's and women's
indoor track and field team both posted third place finishes at the Otterbein
Invitational Saturday in Westerville, Ohio.
The men scored a team total of 114 points,
placing behind Mount Union College (179) and host Otterbein (135). The
women totaled 94 points to finish behind Otterbein (190) and Mount Union
(146.5).
Men's individual winners included Brian
Pelanda (Marysville/Marysville) in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.53
seconds. Junior Evan Hartman (Mt. Gilead/Mt. Gilead) won the high
jump with a jump of 1.98 meters.
Freshman Doug Gibbons (Troy/Troy) won
the pole vault with a height of 4.27 meters, and junior Syl Eddy (Columbus/Bishop
Ready) won the triple jump with a distance of 13.04 meters.
Capital's relay teams both placed first in the
4x200 and 4x400 meter races. The 4x200 team won in a time of 1:31.72 and
the 4x400 took first with a time of 3:29.19.
The women's team had one individual winner in
senior Erica Basinger (West Jefferson/Worthington Kilbourne) in the
300-meter dash (45.16 seconds), who also placed second in the 55-meter
dash. The 4x200 meter relay team won their event in 1:51.64.
Freshman Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow
International) placed second in the long jump and sophomore Christina
Heineike (Sunbury/Buckeye Valley) took second in the long jump. Stanton
also set a Capital indoor record with a 7.50 in the 55 meter dash
The track team heads to Marietta Saturday for
the OAC Relays.
