Crusaders Start Indoor Season Strong at Marietta

(MARIETTA, Ohio)--Capital University's track & field team
started its indoor season this afternoon in Marietta, Ohio and performed well
as many Crusaders had top finishes.
The Crusaders were one of eight teams that competed at Marietta, however the
Crusaders and Pioneers were the only Ohio Athletic Conference teams at the
meet.
Junior Trent Hinton (Columbus/Whetstone) was one of several Crusader
men to garner first place honors, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of
23.46, while sophomore Desmond Taylor won the 55-meter dash running at
a 6.70 clip. Senior Isaac Jennings (Youngstown/Youngstown Chaney) took
home third-place in 55-meter dash with a time of 7.01.
Capital took the top two spots in the 400-meter dash with juniors Charlie
Smith (Westerville/Big Walnut) and Brian Pelanda
(Marysville/Marysville) claiming times of 51.51 and 52.96 respectively.
Sophomore Stephan Woods (Cleveland/Bedford Chanel) finished third in
the mile-run with a time of 4:55.92, while freshman Brent Bolz
(Westerville/Westerville South) and Jennings were second and third in the
long jump as Bolz jumped 19 feet-6.75 inches and Jennings jumped 14 feet-7.75
inches.
To cap off the top finishers for the men was junior Evan Hartman (Mt.
Gilead/Mt. Gilead) who won the high jump at six feet, two inches.
On the women's side, senior Erica Basinger (West Jefferson/Worthington
Kilbourne) was the lone first-place finisher in long jump with as she went
16 feet-3 inches, while senior Dena Thobe (Chickasaw/Marion Local) came
in fourth with a 15-foot jump.
Basinger also finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.80. Junior Tayler
Blake (Nashport/Tri-Valley) crossed second in the mile-run at 5:29.99.
In the high jump, sophomore Abby Skoda (Ashland/Ashland) and sophomore Kayle
Frock (North Canton/North Canton Hoover) finished second and third
respectively with jumps of four feet-10.25 inches and four feet-eight and a
quarter inches respectively.
Finally, freshman Amanda Patrick (Norwalk/Collins Western Reserve)
finished second in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet-11.25.
The Crusaders hit the track again after the holiday break when they host the
Crusader Invitational on January 14th
