Crusaders Win Five in a Row After Sweep at Wilmington

(WILMINGTON, Ohio)--Capital
University's softball team matched a season-best five-game win streak with a
two-game Ohio Athletic Conference sweep Wednesday at Wilmington College. Capital improves to
20-17-1 overall and 7-9 in the OAC, while Wilmington drops to 4-31 overall and
2-14 in the conference. The
Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and never looked back in
a 10-0 win in game one. Junior pitcher Jen Heidenreich (Xenia/Xenia)
pitched a complete game, two hitter for her third shutout and moved to 10-12 for
the season.
Sophomore Lindsay Shepherd (Phillipsburg/Northmont)
went 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in a run and scoring three times to lead
Capital at the plate.
Wilmington took a 2-0 lead after two innings in game two before Capital scored
12 unanswered runs over the next four innings for a 12-2 win.
Sophomore pitcher Erin Willeke (Newark/Licking Valley) went the distance
allowing only four hits as she moved to 10-5 on the season.
Senior Mandy Sladoje (Lancaster/Lancaster) had a pair of hits and drove
in four runs, three of them on a six-inning home run as Capital had its
second-most hits in a game this season with 14.
Capital finishes the 2006 season with a pair of OAC
games Saturday at Marietta College. |
