Capital Softball Ready to Move in 2002

The Capital University Softball team is ready to move in 2002; ready to move to a new park and ready to move to the top of the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Crusaders new park is Wolfe Park, a short drive North of campus off Broad Street. Capital's next move, up the OAC standings, fall to the hands of the most veteran team with 13 letterwinners and 10 starters, who have won at least 24 games in each of the last three seasons, including a 24-17-1 overall record and fourth place OAC finish in 2001.

Capital, the OAC's second-best hitting team from a season ago returns its top four hitters, Amanda Carroll, Erin Elliott, Heather Boyer, and Rikki Jones. All four hit over .360 and all with exception of Boyer started all 42 games last year. Boyer only missed two games but led the team with 13 extra base hits and a .987 fielding percentage. Pitching will be the question for the Crusaders entering the season as they return one starter and two relievers and must rally from the league's sixth-best earned run average at 2.91.

The Crusaders will play nine of their 38-game schedule in Fort Myers, Florida, before opening their new park on Friday, Mar. 15, at 3:30 p.m. against Alma (Mich.) College.
