Rutherford's Run Ends With Second Round Loss at NCAA Men's Tennis Championships
Capital University senior Matt Rutherford (Columbus/Upper Arlington) advanced to the round of 16 before falling at the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

Rutherford beat Danny Kim of the University of California at Santa Cruz in the opening round in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Kim had helped lead UC-Santa Cruz to a second place finish in the team competition this past weekend.  

Rosty Orach, Trinity (Conn.), the No. 2 seeded player in this year's field, ended Rutherford's season in the second round, 6-4, 6-3.

Rutherford entered the tournament posting a perfect 18-0 record this spring and leading Capital to its first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Tennis title.  He is a two-time OAC singles champion at No. 1 singles and finished seventh this past fall at the Rolex National Small College Championships.
