Capital Dethrones Heidelberg With 1-0 Victory

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Capital
University's men's soccer team earned their 10th win of the season with a 1-0
victory Wednesday over Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Heidelberg College in
Columbus, Ohio.
Both teams started out strong but 30 minutes
through the first half, a Heidelberg foul set the Crusaders up for a penalty
kick. Sophomore Paul Sparke (Cincinnati/Archbishop Moeller) came through
for Capital and sent the ball down the middle, giving the Crusaders the 1-0
lead.
The second half was physical but the Student
Princes couldn't pull through with a goal. At the end of the contest, Capital
had the 1-0 win; Heidelberg drops to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.
With the win, the Crusaders are now 10-3-1overall
(3-1 OAC), posting the best record in 15 games in school history. Sparke's goal
is his second penalty goal in two games and his third for the season.
Defensively, the Crusaders held the Student
Princes to nine shots for the entire game. Freshman goalkeeper John Snyder
(Columbus/Thomas Worthington) earned six saves during this match, giving him
60 for the season.
Capital will go for their 11th win when they host
rival Otterbein College (4-6-2, 0-2-1 OAC) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bernlohr
Stadium.
