Crusaders Season Ends in OAC Quarterfinals
(4) Wilmington 73, (5) Capital 64 [Box Score]
(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – Capital University’s men’s basketball team fell to Wilmington College in the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday 73-64 in Wilmington, Ohio.

The Crusaders end the season with a 12-13 record, while Wilmington improves to 20-6 and will move on to play Baldwin-Wallace College in the semifinals Friday in Berea, Ohio.

Wilmington started the game on a 7-0 run in the first three minutes as the Crusaders had a tough time getting on the scoreboard; however Capital went on a run of their own scoring eight straight to cut the Quakers lead to 25-23 with 2:30 to play in the first half.

At the end of the first period, Wilmington held a 33-27 lead, fueled by 12 points from Quaker guard Zach Broermann as he hit 4-of-4 from behind the arc.

The Quakers started off fast in the second half just as they did in the first, going on a 14-4 run over a four minute span to take a 16-point lead at 47-31.

Capital again answered back, cutting the lead to nine at 51-42 and then to 63-58, but would not get any closer as the Quakers drilled all 10 of their free throws in the last two minutes of the contest to seal the Crusaders fate and ultimately end their season.

Freshman guard Nate Stahl (St. Henry/St. Henry) capped off a tremendous rookie season as he scored seven points in the game to become the single-season record holder for points scored in a season by a freshman with 369 total points. Stahl’s dunk with 2:45 to play cut the Wilmington lead to five and also set the record.

Sophomore forward Jake Meisler (Castalia/Margaretta) led the Crusaders in scoring and rebounding with 21 markers and six boards as the only player in double-figures.

Broermann scored a career-high 28 points for Wilmington, as he nailed all six of his three-point attempts. Eric Stirling also added 17 points for the Quakers.
