Meisler Powers Crusaders to OAC Tournament Berth
Capital 66, Mount Union 58 [Box Score]

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Capital University's men's basketball team, led by a game-high 22 points from Jake Meisler (Castalia/Margaretta), clinched a spot in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference tournament with a 66-58 win over Mount Union College this afternoon at The Capital Center in Columbus, Ohio.

With a Capital victory over Mount Union and a Heidelberg loss the Crusaders earn a spot in the eight-team OAC tournament which starts February 22nd.

The Crusaders have now won two games in a row and improve to 10-12 on the season, 7-9 in the OAC. Mount Union falls to 5-18 on the year after losing their eighth game in a row and drops to 4-12 in the conference.

A low-scoring first half showed a 9-9 score on the board with ten minutes left on the clock before both teams started finding the bottom of the net. Capital would go into the locker room with a 27-24 lead as freshman guard Nate Stahl (St. Henry/St.Henry) drilled a three to break the tie.

Meisler scored 13 points in the first period on 6-of-7 shooting.

Mount Union would lead once in the second half, but only by a point, as Capital distanced themselves from the Purple Raiders with an 8-0 run over a two-minute span and would hold the advantage from that point on.

Stahl and sophomore forward Steve Kyser (Sylvania/Sylvania Southview) each tallied 14 points as Meisler led with six boards. Sophomore guard Pat Stolly (Lima/Lima Central Catholic) had a career-high five steals.

Capital will play its final regular season road game at Marietta on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Crusaders won the first matchup of the season against the Pioneers by a score of 108-75.
