Stolly Hits Game-Winner at John Carroll

(UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio)--Sophomore guard Pat Stolly (Lima/Lima Central Catholic) nailed a three-pointer with 2.5 seconds left in double overtime to lift Capital University to an 82-77 over John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball
game in University Heights.

Capital moves to 9-12 overall and 6-9 in the OAC with the win, while John Carroll loses its third in a row to fall to 12-10 overall and 8-7 in the OAC.

John Carroll rallied both at the end of regulation and the first overtime to keep the game going.  Capital had held the Blue Streaks scoreless for the final 2:27 of regulation before Chris Day hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to tie the game at 58-58.  Then the Crusaders led 65-63 with 2.5 seconds remaining in the first overtime when Demetrius Travis hit a layup to make it 65-65.

In the second overtime, Stolly scored seven of his 11 points including his three-pointer that broke a 77-77 tie and turned out to be the game-winner. 

The first half featured nine lead changes and seven ties before John Carroll went on a 10-4 run to end the period and take a 33-30 lead into the lockers.  Capital opened the second half on a 13-4 burst to lead 43-37 with 15:22 left in regulation.  The Crusaders would extend that lead to as many as nine, 53-44, at the 7:54 mark.

Justin Ragor hit five three-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points to lead four John Carroll players in double figures.

Capital had five players in double figures led by 21 from Steve Kyser (Sylvania/Southview) and 15 from Jake Meisler (Castalia/Margaretta).

Capital returns home Saturday at 3 p.m. to take on Mount Union College in an OAC game.
