Meisler's Career-High 28 Paces Capital Past Heidelberg

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - In his first game in over a month, sophomore forward Jake Meisler (Castalia/Margaretta) poured in 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his third career double-double to lead Capital University's men's basketball team past Heidelberg College, 80-68, in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in Columbus, Ohio.

With the victory, the Crusaders snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 7-10 on the year, 4-7 in the OAC. Heidelberg falls to 7-11, 3-8 in the conference.

At the 4:34 mark in the first half, the Student Princes took a 14-point lead at 32-18 on an Andrew Lemmon foul shot, but the Crusaders crawled back to get within seven as they went into the locker room.

Capital shot just 30-percent in the first half, but got solid efforts from Meisler (above) and freshman guard Nate Stahl (St. Henry/St. Henry) who ended up with 13 and 11 points respectively in the first half.

With a 9-0 run that spanned three minutes of the second half, the Crusaders took the lead from Heidelberg that was propelled by four markers from sophomore point guard Pat Stolly (Lima/Lima Central Catholic) and gave Capital a 51-46 advantage.

The Crusaders would not relinquish the lead from that point on as they outscored the the Student Princes 51-32 in the second period to win the contest.

Stolly scored a career-high 15 points and Stahl chipped in with 17 markers and had two steals.

Capital had a season-low eight turnovers and shot 66 percent from the free-throw line.

The Crusaders will go for two in a row at Otterbein on Saturday in game two of a double-header. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
