Capital Falls in Final Seconds To Otterbein

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)--Ross Banaszak hit a jumper with 12 seconds left to send Otterbein College to a 74-72 Ohio Athletic Conference win Saturday at Capital University.

Otterbein moves to 6-9 overall (2-6 OAC), while Capital falls to 6-8 overall (3-5 OAC)

Banaszak finished with a game-high 19 points and center Tyler Ousley had 17 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the Cardinals.

Freshman Ryan Wood (Pickerington/Pickerington Central) had a career-high 16 points and four three-pointers to pace Capital.  Fellow Freshman Nate Stahl (St. Henry/St. Henry) and sophomore Steve Kyser (Sylvania/Southview) each had 15 and sophomore Matty Owens (Mason/Mason) had 11 to round out the double figure scorers for Capital.

The lead changed hands three times early in the first half, before Otterbein went on a 22-6 surge to lead 29-13 with 6:26 left in the half.  The Cardinals would maintain a 10-point lead, 41-31 at the break.  Otterbein got 13 points from Banazak and 10 points from Ousley in the first half.

Capital rallied to start the second half scoring 10-straight points capped by a Wood three-pointer to tie the game at 41 with 15:20 left in the game.  Another Wood three-pointer with 5:49 left to play would give Capital the lead, 60-59.  With the score tied at 64, Otterbein would get a pair of three-pointers from Adam Wells and Eric Murphy, while Capital would got three minutes without a field goal to leave the score at 72-68 Otterbein with 46 seconds left.  The Crusaders would tie the game on baskets from Mark Tinklenberg (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) and Brian Alge (Springboro/Springboro) setting up Banaszak's heroics.

Capital is back on the road next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., at Wilmington College.
