(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Capital University's men's basketball team completed a two-game sweep to win the championship as the host team of the 2005 Capital Classic after defeating Lake Erie College 72-59 Saturday at The Capital Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The Crusaders jumped out to a double-digit lead 21-10 at the 12:53 mark in the first period and they did not look back as their lead would stay at 10 or more for the rest of the contest.

Freshman guard Nate Stahl (St. Henry/St. Henry) carried the offense in the first half for the Crusaders as he dropped in 15 points on 6-8 shooting, three of his field goals being three-pointers and was helped  by sophomore forward Steve Kyser (Sylvania/Sylvania Southview) who chipped in with 11 points and five boards.

After leading 42-26 at the break, the contest was evenly played for the second stanza, but the Storm could not cut the lead to less than 10 and wound up dropping the contest by 13, 72-59.

A tough Crusader defense held the Storm to a 38% field goal percentage for the game and had a 40-29 rebounding advantage.

Stahl was once again the leading scorer for the Crusaders as he notched his second straight 20+ point performance, going for 22 on 8-13 shooting and hitting five triples.

Kyser finished with 19 points and led the team with eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Jake Meisler (Castalia/Margaretta) was the other Crusader in double-figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing four boards.

Junior guards Dave Johnson (Cincinnati/Roger Bacon) and Brian Alge (Springboro/Springboro) dished out five and four assists respectively to propel the offense.

Capital will now have a few days off before traveling to Springfield, Ohio to play a 7:30 p.m. contest against the No. 10 ranked Wittenberg Tigers
