Dan Bartholomew

Quarterbacks

Dan Bartholomew is in his fourth season of coaching quarterbacks at his alma mater.

Bartholomew had one of the best seasons ever for a Capital quarterback in 2001, as he was only the third Capital player at the time to throw for over 2,500 yards in a season while throwing 23 touchdown passes. Aside from his passing, he was also the team’s second-leading rusher that season averaging 3.5 yards a carry.

Bartholomew is single and graduated with a degree in political science in 2002 is completing the teacher licensure program through Ashland University.

Tim Boynton
Assistant Coach/
Runningbacks

Tim Boynton in his fifth season on the Crusader staff coaches the runningbacks.

Boynton came to Capital from Otterbein, where he was the defensive line coach for two seasons. After playing a season of college basketball at Lock Haven (Pa.) University, he transferred to Thiel (Pa.) College where he played football for three seasons before graduating in 1996. He started his coaching career as the defensive ends coach at Allegheny (Pa.) College for two years.

Boynton and his wife, Julie, reside in Westerville.

Andre Griffin
Assistant Coach/
Runningbacks

Andre Griffin is in is first year on the Capital staff and is coaching the runningbacks.

Griffin, a 2002 Ohio State alum, will not have to go far to get advice on coaching runningbacks as his father is two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin. He played football at Ohio State from 1998-2001 then went on to work in the Buckeye athletic department.

Last season, he served as the runningbacks coach and junior varsity head coach at St. Charles High School in Columbus.

Jack Ruetty
Assistant Coach/
Linebackers

Jack Ruetty is in is first year on the Capital staff and is coaching the linebackers.

Ruetty has seen plenty of Capital football over the last four seasons from the stands as he watched his son Joel, a three-year starter at cornerback, that earned All-OAC honors as a senior last season. Ruetty also saw his share of OAC football as a player and 1976 alum of Muskingum College.

Ruetty, who teaches algebra, geometry and computer applications at Marysville High School, has spent the past 29 years as an assistant coach at the high school level with stints at Marysville, Dublin Coffman and Dublin Scioto High Schools.

Dave Smith
Assistant Coach/
Tight Ends & Tackles

Dave Smith is in is first year on the Capital staff and is coaching the tight ends and offensive tackles.

Smith, a 1977 Mount Union grad, brings 27 years of high school and college football coaching experience, including a seven-year stint as an assistant coach at Otterbein College. Last year, Smith was runningbacks coach and assistant offensive coordinator at Westerville Central High School.

Smith has been a Health and Physical Education teacher at Westerville City Schools since 1978, while he and his wife Marianne have two children.

Robert White
Assistant Coach/
Defensive Line

Former Capital offensive lineman Robert White moves from offensive line to defensive line as he enters his third season as an assistant coach.

The Fresno, Calif., native was one of five junior college transfers from the left coast that came to Capital prior to the 2000 season. White played two seasons on the Crusader offensive line and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fitness management.

White, completing coursework for a master’s degree in education from the University of Dayton, is single and resides in Columbus.
