Capital Ties Mark For Wins In a Season; Rolls Past Wilmington
No. 21 Capital 48, Wilmington 10
[Box Score]
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Junior quarterback Rocky Pentello (Columbus/Westerville) went 29-43 for 366 yards and tossed four touchdowns to lead an offensive attack that rolled up 484 total yards and powered past Wilmington College 48-10 in each team's last Ohio Athletic Conference matchup of the year at Bernlohr Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

Capital will now wait until tomorrow afternoon to see if their season will continue next weekend as they hope to gain an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Capital concludes the regular season with an 8-2 record (7-2 OAC), while Wilmington falls to 2-8 (2-7 OAC). With the victory, the Crusaders match their high for wins in a season with eight as they also did so in 1970 and 2003.

Senior wide receiver Kyle Rankin (Kipling/Meadowbrook) got the Crusaders on the board early in the first quarter as he caught a 34-yard strike from Pentello on the first drive of the game.

The Crusaders turned the ball over on their next two possessions, the second coming on a Pentello interception deep in Capital territory; however the Crusader defense was able to limit the Quakers to a field goal and still held a 7-3 lead.

With the contest tied at 10-10 after a Wilmington touchdown, Pentello led the offense on a nine-play 52-yard drive that ended with a Pentello to senior wide receiver Lewis Howes (Delaware/Principia Prep) 21-yard touchdown pass to give the Crusaders a 17-10 edge.

A close contest turned into a rout in the third quarter as Capital lit up the scoreboard with 17 points on a 27-yard Matt Spitz (Xenia/Xenia) field goal, a nine-yard Colin O'Reilly (Bexley/Bexley) touchdown run and Pentello's third touchdown pass of the game to senior wide receiver Kive Kraft (Amanda/Amanda-Clearcreek).

Wilmington committed six turnovers, five in the second half, as a strong Crusader defense flexed its muscles in the second half and the offense caught fire, scoring 31 points.

Senior defensive back Tom Coleman (Westerville/Westerville South) picked off Quaker quarterback Brad Monk twice in the fourth quarter, while senior linebacker Joel Sickmeier (Pickerington/Pickerington Central) and sophomore defensive back Matt Coleman (Westerville/Westerville South) each added an interception as well.

Another O'Reilly touchdown scamper and a Pentello pass to Kraft capped off the scoring for the afternoon, leaving the final score 41-10.

Both Kraft and Howes went over the 100-yard mark in the game as Kraft caught 9-120 and two touchdowns, while Howes grabbed eight balls for 100 yards and a score. It marks the second time this season that two Capital receivers went over the 100-yard barrier as Kraft and Howes turned the trick earlier this year at Ohio Northern.

Sickmeier, Matt Coleman, and junior defensive lineman Marty O'Malley (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) each recorded four tackles to lead the defense which also notched four sacks and had 11 tackles for a loss.
