Capital Downs Visiting Marietta
Capital 41, Marietta 10 [Box Score]
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Junior quarterback Rocky Pentello (Westerville/Westerville South) threw four touchdowns, three to senior wide receiver Kive Kraft (Amanda/Amanda Clearcreek) as Capital University defeated Marietta College 41-10 in an Ohio Athletic Conference football matchup at Bernlohr Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

The Crusaders are now 3-2 (2-2 OAC) on the year, while the Pioneers fall to 2-3 (1-3 OAC).

Capital held a 10-3 advantage for much of the first half on a Matt Spitz (Xenia/Xenia) 40-yard field goal and a six-yard scoring strike from Pentello to senior wide receiver Matt Cesaratto (Seven Hills/Normandy) until the Crusader offense drove down the field and Pentello found Kraft over the middle with 24 seconds left in the second quarter to cap off an eight play, 83-yard drive take a 17-3 lead into the locker room.

A scoreless third quarter for both teams turned into an offensive outburst for Capital in the fourth quarter as Pentello found Kraft two more times and senior running back Colin O'Reilly (Bexley/Bexley) capped off his third 100-yard rushing day of his career with a four-yard scamper into the end zone.

Pentello completed a season-high 27 passes for 338 yards  while completing passes to 11 different receivers. His favorite targets were Kraft, who pulled in five balls for 67 yards and three touchdowns, senior wide receiver Chad Stencil (Avon/Avon) who grabbed five for 34 yards and Cesaratto, who caught the other scoring toss from Pentello and finished with three catches for 33 yards.

Capital's defense bottled up Marietta running back Steven Wagner, the conference's leading rusher, to 30 yards on 18 carries and did not surrender a touchdown to the Pioneers until two minutes left in the fourth quarter. Senior linebacker Joel Sickmeier (Pickerington/Pickerington Central) was responsible for a lot of the pressure on the Marietta offense as he totaled 10 tackles, one for a loss. Sickmeier leads Capital in tackles on the season with 31.

Pioneer quarterback Jason Vrable was 23-34 passing, but for only 133 yards as he was forced into short throws all day by Capital's defense, who also sacked Vrable five times and picked him off twice. Senior defensive end Matt Evans (Williamsport/Westfall) registered three of the five sacks, giving him four on the season.

Senior linebacker Bart Sparhawk (North Canton/North Canton Hoover) and sophomore defensive back Matt Coleman (Westerville/Westerville South) also had seven tackles a piece.

Next weekend, Capital will travel to New Concord, Ohio to face the Muskingum College Fighting Muskies (1-4, 1-3 OAC) at 1:30 p.m.
