(COLUMBUS, Ohio)--Capital University's baseball team rallied for a 7-6 win in the opener then fell 13-9 in the second game to post a split against regionally ranked Heidelberg College in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at Clowson Field in Columbus.

Capital moves its record to 9-15 overall and at 2-4 in the OAC stays one win out of one of the top four spots for the OAC Tournament.  Heidelberg, ranked No. 8 in the Mideast region by the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association, sits 18-9 overall and 3-3 in the OAC after the split.

The Student Princes plated three runs in the top of the second in game one to take an early 3-0 lead.  Capital rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run from third baseman Graham Holmberg (Newark/Newark).  Heidelberg came right back with three more runs in the fourth to retake the lead, 6-3.  The Crusaders began the comeback in the bottom half of the fourth with a single run to close to 6-4.   Capital finished the comeback in the bottom of the seventh putting together three-straight base hits after a one-out error to score three runs and take the game.  Jimmy Haas (Fremont/St. Joseph) provided the game-winning hit with an RBI-double.

Senior pitcher Aaron Hurney (Chesterville/Sparta-Highland) allowed just one hit over the final three innings to earn his first win of the season, while reliever David Paddock took the loss for Heidelberg.

Holmberg finished the opener going 2-for-3, with a homer, scoring once and driving in four runs.

In the nightcap, Heidelberg jumped out with five first inning runs then scored three more in the fourth for an 8-0 lead.  Capital started another comeback scoring seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings to close to 8-7.  The Student Princes then scored three more runs in the sixth and a pair in the seventh, while the Crusaders rally had only one more run for the 13-9 final.

Capital left 12 runners on base in game two, including having a runner on third at the end of each of the final three innings.

Travis Fox went 4.2 innings to get the win, while Jared Wolf allowed only two runs over the final 2.1 innings for the save for Heidelberg.  Junior Bryan White (Newark/Licking Valley) took the loss for Capital.

At the plate, Marc St. John (Perrysburg/Perrysburg) and Jimmy Haas each had a pair of hits, while Haas and Matt Stembridge (Mexico, Mo./Mexico) both drove in two runs.

Capital hits the road Monday for a single nine-inning game at 4 p.m. at Cedarville University.
