Capital Splits OAC Doubleheader at Mount Union

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - Capital University's baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against the Mount Union Purple Raiders Sunday in Alliance, Ohio.

The Crusaders earned the first match 4-1 and dropped the second 8-7, moving their record to 7-12 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.

The first game stayed tight throughout; Capital put up a run in the first inning, however later the Raiders would tie the score at 1-1.

The Crusaders would go on to score three runs in the seventh inning to pull out the 4-1 victory. Junior Jake Butler (Newark/Licking Valley) and freshman Nick Snider (Granville/Granville) each pulled in two RBIs.

Freshman pitcher Nick Brown (Kirtland/Mt. Notre Dame Cathedral) earned the win to move to 2-1 overall, while junior pitcher Graham Holmberg (Newark/Newark) earned his third save of the season.

In the second game, Capital jumped out to an 6-0 lead heading into the third inning. By the end of the same inning, Mount Union got two runs on the board. The Raiders would do severe damage in the seventh when they scored five in the bottom on the inning for the 8-7 win.

Holmberg took the loss after walking a batter and hitting three as he relieved starter Bryan White (Newark/Licking Valley) in the bottom of the seventh.

Capital travels to Canton, Ohio to take on Malone College for a 1 p.m. game Tuesday.
